THINK OURSIDE THE BOX...
PUSH THE ENVELOPE

If you have been living in the greater Kingston area for awhile tell us about your experiences with the Military Family Services Program. During the last two weeks of May contact the KMFRC and pick up a participant survey, complete it and place it in one of our secure ballot boxes. Your participation is voluntary, valued and confidential.

CRAFTY CURLERS

The Royal Kingston Curling Club recently hosted their annual Grandmothers’ and Great Aunts’ Bonspiel with the theme as “Support the Troops and their families”. The curlers, most wearing something red, were marched onto the ice with bagpipe music following a “Support the Troops” flag.

The 120 curlers from Eastern Ontario were asked to bring along an Izzy Doll, if they were able to knit or crochet. Brenda Forbes from the KMFRC spoke during the dinner hour about the support offered to military families and then was presented a cheque for $250 to go to programming and close to 550 Izzy Dolls! These dolls will be sent with CF members deployed to Afghanistan and Africa to give to the local children, and a few will remain in the KMFRC Playroom.

The giving has continued after the Bonspiel in the form of volunteer time. Parents of a soon to be deployed soldier have offered their time for the KMFRC’s new Adopt-a-Grandparent program. This program will support spouses with children when attending special KMFRC events. When the children all want to go in different directions their “adopted grandparent” will go with them in the future.

Thanks to this special group of women for their support!
